In 1951 Charles Gruter bought “Savora” and gave it a new name: ‘Café Gruter’. He furnished it to his own taste and since then the design has changed little. A real ‘brown’ café; authentic and timeless.
In 60 years, Café Gruter became one of the most famous walk-in and meeting cafés of Amsterdam. Located between Vondelpark, the Concert Hall, Cornelis Schuijtstraat and Van Baerlestraat, Cafe Gruter is centrally located in the chic Oud Zuid. Yet it remains casual and unpretentious.
In the morning, coffee with a newspaper; in the afternoon and evening you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner with a large selection of specialty beers on tap on our sunny terrace.
Thursday and Friday the late afternoon drinks with croquette balls, beef sausage and Heineken beer are well known in Amsterdam.
The mix of locals, tourists and profesionals working nearby, make Café Gruter a place where everyone can feel at home and can enjoy a snack and a drink in good company.
